Digital Receipts In An Instant

While speaking at Jai Stone’s #GameChangHER brunch this past Sunday, I was asked for a way to save receipts without collecting a stack of paper or creating clutter. I suggested to the group of 17 aspiring female entrepreneurs to create free, digital copies of their receipts.

HOW? In 3 easy steps!

  1. Create an email account only for your receipts. Something simple like JohnsReceipts@email.com would work.
  2. Take a picture of your receipt with your smart phone. We carry them around everywhere we go anyway, right?!
  3. E-mail the receipt to yourself with the expense category (office supplies, meals, materials, etc.) as the subject.

You now have an instant, free, and permanent record of your purchase! What do ya know?!

Digital receipts have many benefits over paper receipt recordkeeping.

Immediate Results: Because we carry our smart phones or tablets everywhere we go, the organization of our receipts is immediate and less time consuming. No longer are the days of digging through your pockets, purses, desk drawers and file folders for paper receipts.

Cost Efficiency: It’s FREE! There is no cost associated with this solution. Email clients like Gmail, Yahoo, and MSN offer free e-mail accounts and you already have a smart phone. There’s no need to buy a scanner or receipt organizing machine.

IRS Compliance: IRS sent you an audit notice? No problem, you have all of your receipts in a reasonably organized place with proof of all of your purchases. Score!

User Friendly & Convenient: Have you ever had to search for receipts during tax time or lost a receipt you needed to make a return? With this option, you can print a copy of a receipt as many times as you would like. You can also pull up the receipt on your phone and the cashier can scan it from your phone. You can’t lose!

I understand busy schedules and sheer preference sometimes prevents us from keeping proper financial records. With this immediate and stress-free solution, you can keep track of your purchases while doing what you’re doing with little to no interruption to your lifestyle.
